halloween costumes

can you believe it is already going to be halloween shortly? neither amy nor i have planned our outfits yet. i haven't dressed up in ages, however, so it might not even happen.

i was looking through some old photos and i came across these. amy was in elementary school and i was in kindergarten at the time. amy is the fairy princess and i am the forlorn pumpkin. if i look sad, it's because i was. i remember desperately wanting to be a fairy princess in a dress too, not a pumpkin carrying around a plastic pumpkin for the candy.

and yes, i was sporting a bowl cut.

happy anniversary, moby dick!

it has been 161 years since the story of a vengeful captain and a white whale came into existence. although it was hard to appreciate the tale in my high school literature class, i am now quite fond of the book. thank you, mister herman melville.

there are so many wonderful book cover illustrations for the book, but here are a couple of our favorites.

artist: unknown

artist: ji soo lee

artist: emmanuel polanco

here is my own silly illustration of captain ahab and moby dick that i had done a while back. and yes, i gave the whale fangs. artist's prerogative.

we ain't scurrrrred, social media!

the day has finally arrived, folks. we have joined twitter and instagram under the handle name @matesrubbish.

it's probably not professional of me to admit, but i've come to both appreciate and detest this social media circus. providing friends and strangers alike to take a peek at our lives is both exhilerating and disconcerting. however, i do think it's important that we always keep you in the loop of what we've got going on, not only for the sake of our shops, but just to let you know how we're doing, and what we've got planned in the next phase of our lives.

sooo... join us! we'd love to share with you! we promise not to post too many stereotypical instagram pics (ie our lunch)... unless you'd like to see them.

and to lure you in, a sneak peek of what we've been showcasing on instagram:

ooooh, pretty, right?
